Providing Service in these CT Communities:

We’re betting that you’ve experienced AT LEAST one clogged drain before – after all, just about everyone else has!

Assuming we’re right, it probably won’t surprise you to know that the single most common reason for a drain to clog is neglect.  In the kitchen, not using the drain strainer or pouring grease down your drain can cause you problems.  In the bathroom, flushing excessive amounts of toilet paper at the same time, or inappropriate items like paper towel or toys also is a recipe for disaster.

In some cases, a clogged drain may have nothing to do with what goes down the drain. Scale build-up, deterioration of rusted pipes, tree roots invasion, and crushed drain lines also can wreak havoc behind the scenes leaving you none the wiser.

Clogged Drain Preventive Measures

Using caustic drain cleaning fluids is NOT the best way to clean or prevent clogged drains.  Besides posing obvious health risks, these chemical compounds can corrode your pipes over time; plus, they’re as environmentally unfriendly as you can get.

Instead, use natural means to ensure clear drains.  Occasionally, put a handful of baking soda into each drain and then rinse with hot water.

For even better results, add distilled white vinegar into the mix. Then, about 30 minutes later, pour a pot full of boiling water down the drain to flush all the loosened gunk away.

Here are a few more self-help solutions:

  • Install strainers over all kitchen and bathroom drains to prevent hair, soap and food bits from getting into the pipes and clogging the drains. Just be sure to keep the strainers clean.
  • If your plumbing is equipped with a garbage disposal, be sure to run cold water liberally to move the food grindings through your pipes.
  • Once a week, pour hot water down your drains to help dissolve grease, soap scum and other buildup before these items can form a blockage.

When self-help remedies don’t work, you can always count on CT Mechanical Solutions. We are one of the leading sewer and drain cleaning service providers in Connecticut. That means no job is too large or small for us to handle.
